VANCOUVER – Last week, undercover police agents nabbed 26-year-old Mandeep Kumar Ranga of Vancouver at his home, prompting his family to call police that he was being kidnapped. But he is wanted for numerous drug related and money laundering charges in the US.
The Mounties say they had a warrant for 26-year-old Mandeep Kumar Ranga, who U.S. authorities want extradited on drug-dealing charges.
They say when plainclothes officers went to arrest him, Ranga became confrontational, screaming that he was being kidnapped, and his family called the Vancouver police while friends and neighbours joined in the screaming match.
According to Vancouver City Police, they were aware of the impending arrest and responded to this complaint. They said family members present were not involved in the physical aspects of the arrest, but remained uncooperative with the police.
“Several neighboring residents and the Ranga family friends responded to the commotion, and became vocally involved to inflame the situation at the scene,” a police press release stated.
Ranga, who has a long history of crime, was charged along with well known Indo-Canadian gangster Peter Adiwal for kidnapping and extortion as well as other crimes.
The police warrant alleges that Ranga was involved in the Conspiracy to Import a Controlled Substance, Importation of a Controlled Substance and Conspiracy to Possess the Proceeds of Crime within the United States of America.
